My "Favorite" Book Series
I put favorite in quotation marks because I don’t really have favorite books. I have a very, very, very long list of books I absolutely love. I definitely couldn’t ever pick 1 favorite. Ever since I was little, I’ve always loved to read. Every night before bed, my parents used to read to me and my little sister. After I learned how to read myself, I would read on my own all the time. Second grade is when I remember reading the most. I had a favorite series, Magic Tree House by Mary Pope Osborne, and I used to get mad at one of my friends for reading the books out of order. Now that I’m in college, I read as much as I can with my schedule.
1. Little House on the Prairie by Laura Ingalls Wilder
These are a classic. I’ve read all the books at least once, and I’ve read my favorites countless times. I have my mom’s books from when she was little, and that makes them even more special. I think these are great for every age. My parents started reading these to me when I was probably in kindergarten, and I still read them now. We also watched the tv show based on the books when I was little. On nights where I got to pick the movie/show we watched, I almost always picked Little House. I would say historical books are my favorite genre, and Little House on the Prairie definitely falls under that category.
2. Ruby Red by Kerstin Gier
This is a series Sister #1 showed me back in high school. I don’t think I could ever get tired of this series. It combines time travel, romance, and crazy family drama in the most perfect way. These are my first choice for audio books when I have a long car trip. This series was originally written in German, and there are movie adaptations. Sadly, those adaptations are in German, but I did find versions that were either dubbed in English or had English subtitles on YouTube. I don’t have a single bad thing to say about this series.
3. The Christy Miller series by Robin Jones Gunn
I don’t remember who introduced me to these books, but they have been a favorite of mine since 5th and 6th grade. The original series has multiple continuation series, and while some continuations of books aren’t as good as the original, I feel like the Christy Miller ones are just as good or better than the original series. I remember reading the College Years continuation on our 14 hour drive to Colorado in 6th grade. After finishing that series, I wrote a letter to the author saying how much I loved her books and requesting more. I received a handwritten reply, and at the time she said she didn’t plan on anymore. Since then, she has finished two more continuations and started a spin off series. There aren’t really any words to describe how much I love these books. As much as I love books with a big conflict in them, I like these because they don’t have some huge conflict. They’re like normal life. There’s no government trying to take over, rebellion, or something like that. Like Little House, these can be read and enjoyed by a wide range of ages, upper elementary/junior high to young adults.
4. The Remnant Chronicles by Mary E. Pearson
This series literally blew my mind. It has the biggest plot twist in the history of plot twists, and once you start reading you won’t want to stop. It’s a dystopia, but in my opinion, it’s totally different than all of the other dystopias that I have read. I told one of my high school teachers about this series, and even she couldn’t put it down. She told me that she ordered the next book as soon as she finished the one she was reading. Mary E. Pearson recently wrote a spin off series to the original trilogy I haven’t gotten to read the second book of it yet, but it’s definitely on my Christmas list. So far, the spin off is almost as good as the original. The original just set the bar very high. Overall, this series is amazing, and I could not recommend it more.
5. Embassy Row by Ally Carter
This series only has three books, but there is so much packed inside them. I read these books for the first time in high school, and after I got the last book, I literally could not stop reading it. I started reading the book one day, and then I started reading it in second period at school. When I got to third period, I kept reading through the whole class. I have never read a book that made me feel the amount of emotions I felt while reading this book. Thankfully, we weren’t doing much in third period, and I had a teacher that pretended that she didn’t notice. (I still finished all of my work.) The first two books of this series are good, but the third is by far the best.
My copy of the third book is signed! |
There are many more series that I could have talked about, but for length’s sake I decided to just list 5. Thanks for reading!
